Joanne is now dealing with some of the yucky fall-out of chemo (no, she still has her hair - for one more month). It's been nausea and fatigue and today is deep bone pain, due to steroid withdrawal. My challenge is the fine dance between knowing how important nutrition is (some of you know I'm a nutrition nazi at times!) and her lack of appetite. The only thing that really appeals to her right now is ice cream - I surrender!
Yesterday, under cloudy skies, seven gardening angels came out to do a blitz cleaning up of the back border of our property. As someone who traditionally would rather pull her fingernails out than ask for help, I must say that yesterday's experience was delightful! We accomplished so much in a short time and had fun doing it - I could get hooked on this. Many, many thanks to Rev. Jenn, Ellen, Marie and Mary Ellen, Kristen, Sharon and Bruce. Next step is to rent a truck and take all the debris to it's final resting ground.
Anyone know a good naturopath in town who works with cancer patients???

Sorry to hear about the bone pain; that must suck. I merely have the pleasure of muscle soreness from hard core work on the limestone path. It was lovely to be a part of the Holy Weeding crew. Can't wait to do it again.
Hi Joanne and Janet-
Just want you to know that I've been checking up on you both regularly and sending you love and good vibes. I'm not much for blog comments, but you are both in my thoughts daily. Love from Laurel Slisz
Sending you sweet love and energy to mix-up those pain signals so that you're feeling tingly and expansive . . .
Sent you both an email with the resources I could come up with.
Hope they can help some.
Big hugs,
Tess
Let there be ice cream. As much as she wants! I personally recommend Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream - It's patriotism in a pint....and the sweet taste of liberty in your mouth. :)
I say slurp up the ice cream... and any other joy filled pleasures to be had.
Also Jean McFadden ND has a lot of experience working with cancer, and her husband Ed Layton is an AMAZING accupuncturist. I also really like working with Mathew Tellez ND his # is 676-1961.
love to you both,
Eileen
Dear Janet & Joanne,
A tantric teacher once told me "Life is a 90 mile an hour surprise. We never know what is around the next corner!". Times like this underline that wisdom.
Our thoughts, and prayers are with you.
love,
kelly & randy
I'm beginning to think there's something primal about ice cream, the way we reach for it during times of need. Did ancient Homo sapien perhaps figure out a way to make mint chocolate chip? Who knows, maybe they did but the recipe got burned when they invented fire.
Just a non sequitar for you both.
Surf the pain, hold on to the strawberry.

We have a large pickup truck, but will be gone through this Saturday. If your load can wait until Sunday, give us a call - Gwen & Tom 734.8415
Don't rent a truck. I'll be out mid-day on Tuesday and pick up your pile. Just call me tonight (at work, 715-2262 until midnight) to confirm where it is. Working on the Franklin Street house, I have become the dump run expert, probably because I have the biggest truck.
cheers, Linda Twitchell
J&J (I type this one-handed) I had a dream of enfolding you in a mother's arms saying, "because this is what we do." I didn't know about the journey until afterwards. We are connected by webs of love. Your child, Whitney
Hi ladies,
I don't know of a Naturopath in town but I will say I regularly visited Dr.Chandel for acupressure treatment and believe it played a large part in my healing.
My mom trained with Dr.Chandel and is back in your area again. She has been practicing in Arizona the past few years when she travels -and takes her table with her. I would imagine she would be more than happy to bring her table over.
You can reach her at 303-4511, just ask for Patricia.
Sending love and healing,
Monique
Jean McFadden is great! She's smart, concise and so very caring. We aren't here this week-end, but most any other time we have two trucks that know their way to the dump! Sally
Thinking of you & sending loads of well wishes. Enjoy every morsel of ice cream. I close my eyes & envision your bones relazing with each spoon full. I sent a blog last night, but not sure it got there. So will hold you in my thoughts. Norene
Sorry to hear about the loss of appetite. I recall existing for several months on milkshakes made of ice cream and Ensure - very heavy on the ice cream makes it tolerable when other food just does not appeal - very cool little sips while admiring the newly weeded garden may soothe the tummy and the nutrition nazi. Hang in there, you two.
Hugs, Etta
Just checking in on you two. Hate being so far away and am so grateful for all the love and pitching in that is swirling around you. Thanks for the blog. We'll all eat ice cream as a sign of solidarity (see, we can "pitch in" too!)
Love you both-
Laurie & Breean
Janet - Deb was a professional truck driver - she LOVES to drive big trucks - it would be a favor to her to let her do it :) so - if that is something that would help PLEASE let us know. Jen returns tomorrow night from her mother's funeral in Oregon, and I know she is also eager to help out as well. Do you have another gardening party planned soon?
with love and hope,
April
Hi janet and Joanne --
So appreciating the frequent posts - read often even if I don't write often. Sending lots of healing light and energy your way and imagining the yummy ice cream (hope it's mallards!!) sending soothing and healing coolness and richness throughout your body joanne.

My thoughts go out to you in your time of healing. There is na excellent Naturopath, Laura James, who specializes in oncology. She practices in Ferndale every second week (384-2900). Good luck with your journey.
when i woke up to the sunshine this morning, i thought of you both and all of the sunshine that you bring into my life. you're constantly on my mind and in my prayers. love you both.

I hope you are able to feel the sun on your face today. If not, then at least, enjoy it's light as it warms the room (hopefully it won't melt your ice cream too fast!) The warmth is like a hug from the universe...so soothing and comforting. That universal hug includes the one I am sending you right now! Blessings to you, my friends.
Coly
I love how easy it is to get your updates. If you haven't found a naturopath yet, you might call the folks at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle, and ask whom they use in Bellingham. Another thought is to ask Susa Holt, ND/PA-C if she knows anyone up your way.
love and hugs, Ruth
