This Friday is the Cancer Relay for Life in Bellingham. Those of you who have attended and/or supported this event know that there are many luminarias for those who have survived cancer, are fighting cancer or who have died from cancer. It's quite a moving, beautiful sight when they are all lit at night during the Ceremony of Hope.
Joanne now is a member of two categories: survivor and fighter. We are focusing right now on the later (wish the category was "healing" instead of "fighting").
Anyone can donate a luminaria to honor a particular person - it is $5.00 per luminaria. I envision hundreds of these for Joanne!
This Wednesday, July 11th, Peggy Moore is opening her store, Yak Magic, to have a fundraiser for luminarias for Joanne. From 6 PM on, there will be wine and cheese, and 20% of all jacket sales will go towards luminarias. She will also have lots of bags for people to personally decorate. The store will actually be open from 2 PM, so you can come in anytime during the afternoon to buy a jacket or simply make a donation. If you want wine and cheese, wait until 6!
The money donated goes to the American Cancer Society.
Parties at Yak Magic are always high energy and lots of fun (besides the gorgeous jackets!) The store is located at 1114 Finnegan Way in Fairhaven (that sliver of a street between 11th and 12th). If you want to talk to Peggy, you can call at 715-3573.
Joanne and I will be walking the survivors lap with other members of our church. We will be staying at the event as long as her energy holds out. Maybe we will see you there. . .

What a great way to support Relay for Life and Joanne's recovery process! Thanks to Peggy for her generosity! Your church family has also purchased over 200 luminaria (over $1000 worth) that will be displayed this Friday at Relay. Many of those will hold positive energy for Joanne with her name inscribed. Everyone is invited to cheer on the survivors during the first lap at 6:00 pm and then all join in walking for the cure. It is time to stomp out this terrible disease!! Let's start by visiting Yak Magic on Wednesday!

Your wish has been granted. The luminaria's that will be made from the donations at Yak Magik will all say "HEALING" across the top with Joanne's name across the front of the bag and at the bottom "Survivor + Fighter" the + is a shining star....Joanne's name is in purple. I have 41 so far!!! Thank you so much for getting the word out. It's going to be fun Wed. night. Much Love,
Peggy
Hi Joanne and Janet,
I'm so happy to hear that Joanne is responding so well to the treatments (which I know are happening on many levels!). I'm sure it is an adjustment not to have hair, but I have to say that you look so cute bald! Not everyone could pull that off! ;D I made a Luminaria in your honor, Joanne, at Woodside on Sunday. I know that you will have so many candles burning in celebration of you and your healing journey. Ronna and I will be there to cheer you on during the survivor's lap. Much love to you both,
Cathy
Howdy, you two fabulous women! I concur with everyone who loves the new look - bald is beautiful, especially in light of the healing that is currently going on. Blessings on everyone who participates in some way in the Relay for Life, be it walking, cheering from the sidelines, purchasing luminarias, decorating the bags, and more! Kudos for Peggy's creative fundraiser - fantastic!
With prayers heading your way from the Bay area,
Kathy Seibert
Hi Joanne and Janet,
Hey the bald look is cool for the summer. You still look great Joanne! I'm delighted to hear that you are getting better and better. I once heard Wayne Dyer quip that his head wasn't really bald, he said that the top of his head was a solar panel for a sex machine. Hmmm. Maybe your head is a solar panel for your heart of gold.
Still thinking good thoughts.

Still singing Karen's song while thinking of you, and this a.m. I made some changes:
Love fills every cell of my body
My cells are alive with love
I'm filled with life and vitality
I'm filled with joy and love.
Love fills every cell
Love fills every cell
Love fills every cell of my body
My cells are alive with love
I'm filled with life and vitality
I am light and love.
Big hugs,
Tess and Z
There was a whole stream of "Joanne Kotjan" luminarias that led into a pool of the same at the Relay for Life last night. What a beautiful and powerful demonstration of love for you, my friend. Ellen and I also discovered the delights of Yak Majik. Now I know where all those cool clothes come from! Thanks for inviting us in to yet another way to show our great big love for you.
